We’ve become a bunch of sad sacks, waiting for a loaded, vigilante superdaddy to make it all better. David Wong explains.
Fearless Defenders #5 by Amanda Conner
I have no doubt that the action will be unparalleled and that Spidey is going to “look” awesome!
Tobey Maguire was so perfect as Peter Parker though… I know everyone seems to like this heart-throb version of him (Hollywood version) - but Peter Parker is a nerd! Especially in high school! Andrew Garfield with is messy hair looks nothing but “cool” by today’s standards of the word. So we”ll see…
I’m expecting a kick-ass movie and story… BUT I am worried that his origin will be very tainted by this whole conspiracy having to do with his parents and a link to him becoming Spider-man? Not a fan of that. Is he going to shirk off a robber that leads to Uncle Ben’s (Martin Sheen’s) death- that is the crux of who Spider-man is at his core… “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.” I’m not saying that that will or won’t happen as I have been staying away from spoilers as much as possible- just saying those things worry me.
I am concerned about the idea of a conspiracy theory mostly because of the first HULK movie (by Ang Lee, Staring Eric Bana) and how Bruce Banner being the HULK was also turned into a conspiracy… it was ridiculous. I hope this doesn’t turn out to be ridiculous too!
I know that superhero movies get adjustments done to them to make them current and allow for the stories to condense 50 years of comic book history in some cases… but there are a lot of changes that are indulgent and unnecessary. There are a lot of comic fans out there today that don’t read comics regularly that will love this movie. They watch cartoons, see the movies- and that’s fine- but I’m coming from the perspective of a person who started reading comics in 1983. So seeing some of my favorite characters, especially their origin story, messed with makes me cringe.
As much as I absolutely loved the Avengers, I’m still not terribly cool with them taking Hawkeye’s mostly happy go-lucky, wise-cracking personality and turning him into an overly serious, eye on the prize, militant type.I know with a small part in the movie it leaves room to expand on who he is in the future but the glimpse we got of him in the Avengers painted a very different Clint Barton than I know and love! As he is my favorite comic book character, Spider-man being a close second.
All that being said, I really am looking fwd to seeing the movie! The action looks spectacular and the 3D preview was pretty bad ass too!
But will this great movie be staring Spider-man or just an impostor dressed like him?
